I'm not sure what I can say to enrich the responses to Nintendos decision. Still...Wii?

Think about how hard "Revolution" must be to pronounce in Japanese. "Wii" is a lot easier. Besides, Revolution was always a code name. And... Does the name really affect the gameplay? At all? The same people are still going to buy the system, my friend.

The name certainly does not affect the gameplay, and I will no doubt own one the damn things (funds permitting), but the name also will certainly affect sales. If they named it the "Long Hard Piss", then maybe it would be more attractive to all those hypermasculine x-boxing drunken frat fucks, and I, not caring about the name, would still buy it. The Wii, however, will be considered to be "lame", and "gay" to many, so I weep for Nintendo.

Revolution is too... big of a word. I don't mean it's long, I mean it's too grandiose of a term. Nintendo can say "this is a gaming revolution" all they want in ads, but calling the system itself Revolution would have been a bad move. It'd be like calling it the Uber Coolinator Gaming System 5000. If you try -too- hard to sound big or cool with a name, people will recognize it, and dislike it right away. The more they hear it, the more they get used to it, and they'll maybe begin to look into it... but the initial impression won't be that good.
(note: I'm sure people will reply saying that they always loved the name Revolution, but I recall reading many people bashing the code name when it was first revealed. Not so much the "this name sucks" kind as the "this is stupid, it wont revolutionize anything" kind.)
Wii, on the other hand, is a more unique name. Upon hearing it, and not knowing it's the new Nintendo console, one won't make a dirty joke. They'll wonder what the Wii is. It won't be a slight contempt with a name like Revolution, since the person will be certain the product won't like up to the name... No, with Wii, there's no name to live up to. It's just a console.
And that's why I think Wii is a better name.
(Taken heavily from a friend's post on the subject, but I agree with him wholeheartedly)
Sure, there will be people who won't buy it because of the name, but in recent poll studies, almost exactly the same amount of people said that they'd buy the system regardless. Yes, it will affect sales. Everything Nintendo does affects sales. But the affect -will not- be drastic. If anything, this is free publicity for Nintendo. People who never thought of buying the system will look into the issue out of curiosity, to find out why Ninendo named it this way. It may in fact -help- sales.

I think it's going to be the most fun system to play out of the three. My mind was made up after I saw the Super Smash Bros Brawl trailer. You seem to like it too with the Zero Suit Samus icon. I'm surprised that Solid Snake is going to be in it but I dont mind I always liked Metal Gear Solid anyway

After hearing the news from E3, my confidence in Nintendo has been restored to a significant extent. Since the PS3 will be $600, well...what more needs to be said? Now one can anticipate an unholy (but nevertheless fruitful) alliance between Nintendo and Microsoft, whos consoles one could own each of for the same price as Sony's offering.

Random Tid-Bit of info about the Wii. Wii is actually japanese for fun! So just imagine calling it "The Nintendo Fun". I like it. ^^

Collective rumormongering puts the price of the nintendo Wii at 230 dollars and with a release date between the 2nd and 12th of November. If it's not going to be region specific, I'll buy one off base once I get to Japan.

Well, Names matter, but I think one thing will matter a bit more on my decision to buy a next gen console:
