I listen to a genre of music that most folk in North America have not heard of. It is known as power metal. I urge you all to make a trip to your local file-sharing program and search for these bands:
Sonata Arctica DragonForce Blind Guardian Rhapsody Angra Heavenly
...and so forth

I've not heard of any Power Metal bands... What is it similar to? What, in your opinion, is the best band in the genre?

Um, it's sort of like classic heavy metal (think Iron Maiden) but faster and with a greater emphasis on melody. It also is often heavily keyboard-laced and has symphonic elements. Of course, with this brings a "cheese factor", but I like it all the more for that. MY favorite bands in the power metal genre are Sonata Arctica and DragonForce. In fact, I'm going to a DragonForce concert tomorrow in Cleveland, rock!

i think it is more like techo... but with singing... not like the remixes though... over all its softer then heavy metal, but just as fast.... the singing is alot like classic rock, but more modern word use...over all its a good break from korn, and stuff like that.... i had a head ache anyway ^^;;

Like Iron Maiden but with more melody? I'm in love. I'll check out those bands later tonight! (Wait, so it's sorta like Progressive rock)

Add Flyleaf and Sparta to that. Sparta is local rock. Our neighbor town, Las Cruces, is like the Mecca of underground rock.
More local rock: The Third Degree Innocent Exile .....um....I forgot the names, but I remember the songs. The Q (radio station) plays local rock Sunday nights and it has streaming, I'll try and find a link.
